Bangalore, Sept 3: India's black pepper exports increased by 38 per cent in July this year to 3,373 tonnes against 2,436 tonnes a year ago, while cumulative exports of the commodity regisered a 34 per cent rise from January.Between January and July, India's exports totalled 29,072 tonnes as against 21,650 tonnes a year ago, the Jakarta-based International Pepper Community(iPC) has said in its monthly report. India's exports were nearly one-third of the exports by IPC nations which totalled 90,020 tonnes during the period.
However, on a month-to-month basis, exports were down by 35 per cent in July against 5,170 exported during June, IPC, a body of six pepper growing nations, including India, said.
The country's exports upto July had been matched only by Vietnam, which had shipped 24,890 tonnes during the first seven months of the calendar year. For July, exports from Vietnam were higher than from India.
It said the quantity exported by Vietnam upto now was higher than the estimated crop in thatcountry and it could be due to the fact that accumulated stock hit the market due to good prices.
Overall, global pepper exports increased in July by 24 per cent to 8,897 tonnes from 7,176 tonnes a year ago, but compared with exports in June, global shipments in July were down by 22 per cent, which was over 2,500 tonnes.
