`Infotech firms must aim for the high-end of value-chain'

Goa, Aug 27: The corporate retreat of Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry at the picturesque Taj group's Fort Aguada Beach Resort began on Friday with a message to captains of Indian industry that India's knowledge based industries must realign themselves from the low end to the high end of the value chain to be competitive at a global level.International management consultancy firm AT Kearney's managing director C Srinivasan said in the first presentation at the retreat that India has the potential to become a power house of the digital economy but only companies that reposition themselves as providers of high value added services stand to gain from the knowledge revolution. He said Indian information technology industry needs to move ahead from its current core functional areas of programming, Y2K solutions, Euro solutions and IT-enabled services to e-commerce, e-retail, e-services, data warehousing/data mining, knowledge networks, enterprise wide resources planning and implementationand product development.
