Dull trades dominate Navi Mumbai spices

Mumbai, Aug 24: Slow trading marked the week ended on August 19. Delayed second round of rains affected fluctuations in prices of various commodities from Gujarat. Traders are concerned about about the next sowing and prospects of new crop. Corainder Indore eased while cumin, fenugreek, black pepper and fennel witnessed new highs. Sesameseeds and peanuts were also better.

Turmeric: Prices were well maintained in steady market. In Sangli, spot was quoted at Rs 3100 and pits changed hands between Rs 2850 and Rs 3100. In Mumbai, FOL prices per quintal are quoted at Rs 3050-3100 for Nizamabad, Rs 2900-2950 for Duggirala, Rs 2900-2950 for Cuddapah and Rs 3250-3300 for Sangli Polished turmeric finger. Few container loads were booked for export.

Coriander: Indore variety drifted quietly in thin turnover. Kanpur Avg machine cleaned ruled at Rs 1400-1425, Indore Avg machine cleaned ruled at Rs 1325-1350 and 5 per cent bold machine cleaned ruled at Rs 1600-1650. While 100 per cent Splits machinecleaned ruled at Rs 990-1000 per quintal FOL Mumbai. Stray export demand was noticed.

Cummin: Prices shoot up on speculative buying by stockists. Prices advanced by Rs 100 per 20 kg. One per cent machine cleaned for Singapore ruled at Rs 1500-1550 and Europe quality at Rs 1700-1725. Four per cent machine cleaned at Rs 1400-1450 per 20 kg FOL Mumbai.

Fennel: Prices shot upwards by Rs 20 per 20 kg. Dubai-Singapore quality were quoted at Rs 850-875 while London - Europe quality at Rs 950-975 per 20 kg FOL Mumbai.

Fenugreek: Market prices scaled new highs on lack of selling and persistent export demand. One per cent best bold machine cleaned ruled at Rs 2250-2300, medium best machine cleaned at Rs 2100 and Average machine cleaned at Rs 1975-2000 per quintal FOL Mumbai.

Dill: Prices held strongly. One per cent machine cleaned ruled at Rs 4100-4200 and 11 per cent FAQ at Rs 3650-3700.

Ajwan: Steady and firm conditions continued to prevail. Jamnagar ruled between Rs 6700and Rs 7000. MP Superior at Rs 6700-7000 and medium at Rs 6000-6300 per quintal FOL Mumbai.

Chillies: Prices hovered around same levels amidst negligible trading. Chilly with Stem ruled at Rs 3500-3700 and chilly without stem at Rs 4450-4500 per quintal FOL Mumbai.

Tamarind: Prices remained easy. Basket ruled at Rs 3000, Slab at Rs 3200, Consumer packs at Rs 3400-3500 per quintal FOL Mumbai.

Black pepper: Current month has witnessed upward jump in prices of both ready and future to the tune of Rs 2000 per quintal. In Cochin, ready delivery ungarbled loose ruled at Rs 211 per kg. In futures, September contract ruled at Rs 224.25 and October at Rs 229.75 per kg. MG-1 FOB Cochin quoted at Rs 237 & FOL Mumbai at Rs 230 per kg.

Ginger: Prices ruled firm. NUGC good FOB Cochin ruled at Rs 88,000 & FOL Mumbai at Rs 85,000/86,000 per metric tonne.

Sesameseeds: Delayed second round of rains have caused great concern. 98x2 cost Rs 3100, 95x5 costs at Rs 3000 & Hulled washed at Rs4250-4300.

Peanuts: Prices improved on lack of second round of rains. 45-55 counts at Rs 2650-2700, 50-60 counts at Rs 2550-2600, 60-70 counts at Rs 2500-2505, 70-80 counts at Rs 2450-2500, 80-90 counts at Rs 2405-2450.
