Oracle launches certified programme

Oracle Software India on Monday launched its certified application consultants programmes for financial management to equip users with skills to operate its packages. The course would be in addition to existing programmes for database administration and applications development, the company said in a statement in New Delhi. The examination for the programme would be conducted by Sylyan Prometric, an independent testing organisation, it added. Those clearing the tests would be able to implement Oracle Financials Release 11 package, the release said.

Seagate shipment

Seagate Technology has shipped the 1,000,000th fibre channel disc drive, critical technology that enables disc drives to directly communicate with other devices across the storage network, including other storage products, peripherals and servers. Fibre channel technology benefits users by delivering faster and more widespread access to information, providing the ability to better automatetasks such as back-up routines within certain timeframes and sharing information across dissimilar operating platforms.

Animation summit from Nov 1

South Asia's first animation summit titled `A Week with the Masters' would be held in Thiruvananthapuram from November 1-5. Hosted by Toonz Animation, a new state-of-the-art creative animation studio, the summit would be attended by top animation professionals. Toonz Animation president Bill Dennis told newspersons on Monday that the summit would bring together the true masters of the animation business, those who had literally chartered the direction of animation for several decades and continue to do so.

Aptech bags ERP order

Aptech Ltd has bagged an order from three companies of the Rs 800-crore Yash Birla group to implement an enterprise resource planning (ERP) solution. Aptech will be implementing the Dutch Baan's ERP solutions in Zenith Ltd, Dagger Forst Tools and ITM, a company release said. Aptech's consulting division will beimplementing the solutions.

Speech technology

Intel India Technology Centre on Monday announced a joint initiative with IIT, Madras to develop the latest software systems in speech technology. The company will also sponsor a five-year research project for development of phonetic engine for speech in Indian languages. Speech recognition enables people to access the internet and interact with the data and applications on a PC without having to laboriously learn how to input Hindi on a keyboard.
