Cong-RJD deadlock in Bihar continues

The deadlock over seat-sharing between RJD and Congress in Bihar continued on Sunday with state Congress leaders unrelenting on their demand for more seats and RJD ruling out conceding any more seats to its allies. "I am not going to buckle under pressure from any quarters....Whatever agreement we (RJD) have reached with Congress and other alliance partners is full and final," RJD president Laloo Prasad Yadav told reporters in Patna.

AP Cong names 99 for assembly polls

Congress legislative party leader P Janardhana Reddy, former PCC presidents V hanumantha Rao, K Rosaiah and Marri Sasidhar Reddy, son of late chief minister Chenna Reddy are among the 99 candidates announced by the AICC for the Andhra Pradesh assembly on Sunday. Pilli Subash Chandra Bose, Kusuma Krishna Murthy (both former MPs), Paladugu Venkat Rao (former minister) and former state youth Congress president Sesa Giri Rao are the other prominent leader whose name figured in thelist.

BJP leader criticises EC

Senior BJP leader Ravi Shankar Prasad on Sunday termed as "unhealthy for democracy" the Election Commission's order prohibiting any reference to the Kargil conflict by political parties during their campaign and said the powers and duties of the EC should be `clearly' defined''.

LCP gets Moradabad, declares `truce'

Loktantrik Congress Party (LCP), which had threatened to walkout of the Kalyan Singh government if its demand for increasing the number of parliamentary seats in Uttar Pradesh from three to six was not met, on Sunday called for a `truce' after BJP agreed to give it one more seat-Moradabad.

Advani questions Sonia's `silence'

Union home minister LK Advani on Sunday hit back at Congress President Sonia Gandhi on the Bofors payoffs issue, questioning her `sudden silence' following the release of documents by BJP on the alleged involvement of Italian businessman Ottavio Quattrochhi in it. Advani told reporters in Bangalore that BJP hadalready highlighted the court pronouncements, which the party claimed `had made the involvement of Quattrochhi in this scandal very evident'.
