Thiruvananthapuram, Aug 22: The attitude of the CPM state leadership in Kerala which is totally against aligning with the Congress at the Centre has come in for sharp criticism from the Opposition in the State. The CPM in Kerala has taken a different stance at a time when Congress and Left parties were forming alliances with regional parties in states such as Bihar, Tamil Nadu where they were weak and the CPM central leadership had kept the option of post-poll alliances open.Senior Congress leader and leader of opposition in Kerala, AK Antony responding to Left Democratic Front Convenor VS Achuthanandan's remarks recently that Congress should support a secular alliance led by Left parties at the Centre said that only Congress could provide a stable, secular government. Achuthanandan's stand is akin to saying that CPM should support a government formed by RSP which has only four seats in Kerala Assembly, he said.
The CPM state leadership's attitude will only lead to split in the CPM in the state after theelections, Antony told mediapersons here on Sunday. The Third Front had become a non-entity with most of its founding partners opting out of the alliance, Antony said. Therefore, this election is a straight fight between BJP and Congress at the national level.
The publicity given to the alleged threat on chief minsiter EK Nayanar's life posed by Muslim fundamentalists was with a ploy to gain votes of Hindus in the state, he said. The state government should take the Opposition and media into confidence regarding the leaders whose life are under threat.
He also took strong exception to Nayanar's remarks the other day that he had successfully fooled the media regarding the intelligence reports on Muslim fundamentalists conspiring against him and a few other leaders. If other politicians or even the common man's life is under threat from fundamentalists, the government should share those information with the pubic. This story is being made up by the ruling LDF with an eye on the Hindu vote bank, Antonyreiterated.
The Lok Sabha poll will also be a referendum on the three years of LDF rule in Kerala. During the LDF tenure, the agriculture, industrial sectors have become stagnant, he said.
