Jaipur, Aug 18: The ruling Congress party in Rajasthan has landed itself in a soup over the transfer of over 80,000 teachers in the state. The state government has effected these transfers fearing that the election schedule will put a ban on such decisions. The state has also witnessed opening up of no less than 15 new colleges this year but not a single principal has been appointed for these.
The moves have invited the ire of teaching community in the state. The government has now approached the Election Commission to give it the right to effect the postings so that the students are not affected.
Chief minister Ashok Gehlot has taken a serious note of the matter. He is even considering a probe into the mass transfers.
According to sources, while effecting these transfers the director of education did not even take the concerned secretaries into confidence, sources said.
The teaching has further been hit in the state following the decision of the election authorities here to occupy the colleges in all the districts for election purposes. In Jaipur, the Rajasthan College and the Commerce College have been closed for teaching purposes due to the Lok Sabha polls.
