New Delhi, Aug 17: The BJP-Janata Dal (U) deadlock over seat-sharing for Lok Sabha and assembly polls in Karnataka and Bihar was finally resolved on Tuesday. However, the stalemate over the latter's entry into NDA continued to persist.Of the 54 Lok Sabha seat in Bihar, the BJP will contest 29 and leave the remaining 25 for the `reinvented' Janata Dal under the new electoral arrangements.
While the Janata Dal (U) would contest 10 seat in Karnataka, the BJP would field its candidates from 18 Lok Sabha constituencies.
The party's Karnataka unit has also agreed to leave 95 Assembly seats for the Janata Dal (U) and would field its candidates for 129 seats, party national general secretary Gobindacharya informed newspersons, adding that talks were on with JD(U) and other parties for adjustment in certain other states including UP, Manipur and Rajasthan.
In reply to a question, Gobindacharya said that issue of inclusion of JD(U) could be decided later. At this point of time it had not been discussed. Heparried questions about the status of the Lok Shakti and Samata Party in NDA as these parties had already announced their merger with JD(U). He said BJP and JD(U) had reached agreement on seat-sharing and there would be no misunderstanding between them. "Other things" could be sorted out after the elections, he added.
Earlier on Monday, the alliance looked in danger as Lok Shakti chief Ramakrishna Hegde insisted on a 50 per cent share in Karnataka. He later revised it to 45 per cent. The demand was rejected by BJP.
After several rounds of talks, a mutual compromise on a 60-40 ratio in favour of BJP was arrived at. Samata Party leader George Fernandes played a key role in the whole episode. The alliance partners reached the agreement late on Tuesday, sources in Samata Party disclosed.
