BT-AT&T to acquire stake in Canadian coBT and AT&T on Monday announced that they have jointly made two strategic moves in the 10 billion pound Canadian telecommunications market. The companies reached a final agreement to acquire jointly -- on a 50:50 basis -- an approximate 33 per cent stake in Rogers Cantel Mobile Communications for C$1.4 billion. Rogers Cantel, a publicly-traded subsidiary of Rogers Communications Inc, is one of Canada's leading mobile operators with about 2 million customers. It also runs a range of paging interactive messaging and mobile data services and had a turnover of C$1.1 billion in the first financial year. It was also announced that BT will acquire a nine per cent stake in AT&T Canada by acquiring 30 per cent of AT&T's current 31 per cent stake in the company for C$600 million.

ACI to launch lightest net-compatible notebook
ACI India Ltd, a subsidiary of the UK-based computer notebook specialist Allied Computer Industries Plc, will soon launch in India the lightest internet-compatible notebook in the world, to address the high-end market. The advanced notebook - ACI Profile would be showcased at Infotel'99, an IT expo beginning August 26 in the city, ACI (UK) managingdirector Hirji Patel said on Monday. "The notebook, weighing 1.67 kg with 26 mm thickness and having a 12.1 inch screen, will be priced at about Rs 1 lakh, which will be at least 30 per cent less than our competitors," Patel said.
