Mumbai, Aug 10: Truck operator's strike in Maharashtra had paralysed the movement of goods affecting the New Bombay Spices market as well. Negligible trading marked the week ended on August 5. Sluggish condition prevailed. Turmeric Nizamabad and Sangli market prices dippped lower. Coriander, Fenugreek etc were well maintained. Black Pepper Malabar level edged up on fresh buying by Egypt and Russia.Turmeric : In Nizamabad and Sangli prices edged down on fresh selling. While Duggirala & Cuddapah maintained. In Sangli spot was quoted at Rs 3150 & pits changed hands between Rs 3200 and Rs 3250. In Mumbai, FOL prices per quintal are quoted at Rs 3150-3200 for Nizamabad Rs 2925-2975 for Duggirala, Rs 2925-2950 for Cuddapah and Rs 3250-3300 for Sangli Polished turmeric finger. Stray export deals were registered.
Coriander : Prices remained steady. Kanpur Avg machine cleaned ruled at Rs 1400-1600, Indore Avg machine cleaned ruled at Rs 1350-1375 & 5 per cent bold machine cleaned ruled at Rs 1625/1650. While 100 per cent Splits machine cleaned ruled at Rs 1000/1025 per quintal FOL Mumbai. Overseas importers preferred to buy splits machine cleaned. Target of export stands reduced to 15000 tonnes.
Cummin : With bulls and speculators in operation, prices have been fluctuating in range of Rs 50 per 20 kg. One per cent machine cleaned for Singapore ruled at Rs 1425-1450 and Europe quality at Rs 1575-1600. Four per cent machine cleaned at Rs 1350-1375 per 20 kg FOL Mumbai.
Fennel: Lost few points on profit- taking. Dubai-Singapore quality were quoted at Rs 840-860 while London - Europe quality at Rs 925-950 per 20 kg FOL Mumbai.
Fenugreek : Diminishing stocks and persistent export buying kept prices steady at firm levels. One per cent best bold machine cleaned ruled at Rs 2200-2250, medium best machine cleaned at Rs 1975-2000 & Average machine cleaned at Rs 1900-1925 per quintal FOL Mumbai.
Dill : After long spell of steadiness, prices eased on slack demand. One per cent machine cleaned ruled at Rs 4000-4050 & 11 per cent FAQ at Rs 3700-3750. New crop ruled around Rs 4200-4250 per 100 kg FOL Mumbai.
Ajwan : Steady and firm conditions prevailed. Jamnagar ruled between Rs 6200 and Rs 6800. MP Superior at Rs 6500-7000 & medium at Rs 5800-6000 per quintal FOL Mumbai.
Chillies : Prices hovered around same levels. Chilly with Stem ruled at Rs 3500-3700 & chilly without stem at Rs 4500-4700 per quintal FOL Mumbai. Tamarind: Prices remained steady. Basket ruled at Rs 3400, Slab at Rs 3500, Consumer packs at Rs 3700-3750 per quintal FOL Mumbai.
Black pepper: Farmers held on to their stocks as usual. Generally farmers prefer to release quantity when they get good price. Stocks with merchants were tight. Egypt and Russia are reported to be buyers. Demand is expected to increase after summer vacation is over in US and European countries. In Cochin, ready delivery ungarbled loose ruled at Rs 198 per kg. In futures, August contract ruled at Rs 207000. MG-1 FOB Cochin quoted at Rs 212000 & FOL Mumbai at Rs 212000 per metric tonne.
Ginger : Prices remained static. NUGC good FOB Cochin ruled at Rs 88000 & FOL Mumbai at Rs 85000 per metric tonne.
Oilseeds sesameseeds : Activity was at a low ebb. Hence prices eased. 98x2 cost Rs 2950-3000, 95x5 costs at Rs 250-2900 & Hulled washed at Rs 4150-4200.
Peanuts: Prices were maintained. 45-55 counts at Rs 2500-2550, 50-60 counts at Rs 2400-2450, 60-70 counts at Rs 2325-2375, 70-80 counts at Rs 2250-2300, 80-90 counts at Rs 2175-2225.
