BJP creating `intellectual terror' on Kargil issue: Rajesh Pilot

Santosh Tiwary
New Delhi, Aug 9: Senior Congress leader Rajesh Pilot has charged the Bharatiya Janata Party of creating an `intellectual terror' in the country on Kargil issue.

Talking to The Financial Express, Pilot said that BJP was trying to take political advantage of the good work done by the armed forces in Kargil despite the fact that it was the government's failure, which created the problem.

"BJP has created an intellectual terror in the country. Anybody pointing towards mistakes in Kargil is called anti-national," he said. Congress will not get deterred by this propaganda and will expose the BJP-led government's lacklustre approach and initial inertia, ultimately leading up to the situation, Pilot added. He said that Kargil would certainly be one of the main election issues. "We are of the opinion that the intruders in Kargil should have been thrown back or killed," Pilot stressed. Besides Kargil, failure of the Vajpayee government on all fronts and stability will be the other major issues to be raised by theparty in its election campaign, he said. "The BJP-led government has left behind a trail of failures on every front," said the CWC member.

Talking about the Congress endeavours to win back the minority and dalit votes, Pilot said the party was trying to strengthen its old traditional base. "They had turned to other parties for sometime, but now, they want to come back to the Congress as it is now clear that only Congress could take care of them on a sustained basis," he said.

The senior party leader said that the party was bound to fulfil its promise of providing reservation to Jats in Rajasthan. "There is no question of going back on that promise," he added. He, however, declined to comment on the chances of such demands from other sections of the society.

Pilot said that expulsion of Sharad Pawar, PA Sangma and Tariq Anwar from the party would affect the election prospects of the party. We are looking on up to what extent, we can overcome the dent, they will make," he said.
