Advanced Micro unveils chip with 650 Mhz speed
PRESS TRUST OF INDIA
Washington, Aug 9: Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) has unveiled a chip for the personal computer market that is claimed to have a speed of 650 megahertz against current leader Intel's fastest 600 megahertz Intel Pentium III chip. The success of AMD, which is in competition with Intel in terms of speed and price, will now hinge upon its ability to cheaply manufacture the new Athlon chips in high volume, the wall street journal reported.AMD has already been forced to lower its current 600 megahertz Athlon prices. It had planned to sell it for $699, but after Intel announced its own 600 megahertz Pentium III for $669, AMD cut its price to $615. Copyright © 1999 Indian Express Newspapers (Bombay) Ltd.
