Mumbai: Freight rates for nine-tonne load vehicles from Mumbai to rest of the country are likely to remain steady in the week ahead, transporters said. "The 4-day truck operators strike in Maharashtra has left behind a pile of cargo which need to be transported. The availability of cargo will keep the freight rates high for at least a week", a transporter said.Over 2.5 lakh vehicles including tankers, trucks and tempos went off the roads on Aug 1 protesting against the toll charges collected by the Maharashtra government for using the newly built flyovers in the city. Last week, the rates to Jammu & Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh rose by Rs 200-500. The rates to Delhi increased by Rs 500 to Rs 13,000.The rise in the rates to Delhi pushed up the freight rates to Haryana and Punjab by Rs 100-500. The truck rates to Bihar were also very buoyant. The rates to Patna went up by Rs 200 to Rs 21,200. The freight rates to Uttar Pradesh also firmed up by Rs 100-300. The rates to Lucknow were at Rs 14,700, up Rs 200.The rates to Meerut and Agra rose Rs 300 each to Rs 13,500 and Rs 13,000.
The rates to Gujarat remained stable. The rates to Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan moved slightly up by Rs 100-200. The truck rates in Maharashtra went up after remaining steady for a few weeks. The Mumbai to Pune and Nashik rates were up by Rs 500 each to Rs 3,500 and Rs 4,000, respectively.The floods in the eastern sector pushed up the freight rates, except to Orissa to which the rates remained stable. The Mumbai to Assam were up by Rs 500. The rates to Guwahati were at Rs 35,500. The rates to Calcutta were up by Rs 300 to Rs 20,800.
In rates to southern sector moved marginally last week. The truck rates to Andhra Pradesh were increased by Rs 100-200. The Mumbai to Bangalore rates rose by Rs 300 to Rs 9,300. The freight rates to Chennai also increased by Rs 300 to Rs 13,000 while those to remaining parts of Tamil Nadu remained same. The freight rates to Kerala were steady.
