Calcutta: The Haldia and Calcutta docks of the Calcutta Port Trust (CPT) witnessed heavy loading of steel, hot rolled (HR) coil and steel goods during the week from July 30 to August 5.According to port sources, around 9,500 tonnes of steel were exported to Bangkok and 8,810 tonnes of HR coil went to Paradip port from the Haldia dock. Another 3,000 tonnes of steel is expected to sail out within a day or two.
Besides, Campania, a Haldia-bound cargo vessel from Mumbai which has been waiting at the Sandheads since August 1, is expected to load 11,000 tonnes of HR coil from Saturday.
On the other hand, Adanis, carrying 2,200 tonnes of steel is set to sail out from Calcutta by Saturday for Haldia from where it will further load 6,000 tonnes of steel. Meanwhile, Jaami, carrying 2,184 cbm of logs from Chittagong is supposed to arrive at Calcutta dock by Friday and is expected to load 2,500 tonnes of steel and steel goods after unloading the log cargo.On petroleum, oil & lubricant (POL) products front, theHaldia dock handled as many as 1,05,866 tonnes, of which high-speed diesel accounted for 50,426 tonnes. CPT sources added that around 10,000 tonnes of furnace oil went to Paradip port and another 15,000 tonnes of the same went to Vizag port from Haldia dock during the week.
The throughput of POL products at Calcutta dock was at 31,200 tonnes compared to 20,500 tonnes previous week. Of this, superior kerosene oil accounted for 17,200 tonnes and high-speed diesel 10,000 tonnes. Sources said that 5,000 tonnes of high-speed diesel went to Singapore from Calcutta dock during the week.
One consignment of sugar each arrived at the Calcutta and Haldia docks during the week carrying 8,025 and 14,000 tonnes, respectively.
On the edible oil front, Haldia dock handled 3,500 tonnes of rapeseed oil whereas Calcutta dock handled 11,711 tonnes of refined bridged degummed (RBD) palmolein. Last week, CDS handled a total of 19,650 tonnes of edible oil of which RBD palmolein was 11,650 tonnes.
Handling of containers atthe Calcutta Dock System was good with a total of 2,805 TEUs. Of this, 1,000 TEUs went to different ports.
Out of the five vessels that arrived at Haldia dock to load thermal coal, four have sailed out for Tuticorin port. The last one is slated to leave for the same destination either by Saturday or Sunday. Besides, two consignments of coking coal totalling 46,000 tonnes arrived at Haldia.
The throughput of crude at Haldia oil jetty was 1,10,808 tonnes compared to a record two lakh tonnes previous week. A source in Indian Oil Corporation said that Maharaja Agrasen, a Suezmax tanker with half load, is likely to arrive at the Saugor anchorage by Friday or Saturday.
Among others commodities, around 12,000 tonnes of naphtha went to Kakinada port from Haldia. Apart from that, logs of 5,274 cbm and over 5,046 tonnes of general cargo arrived at Calcutta dock. Moreover, around 27,000 tonnes of limestone arrived at Haldia dock.
According to CPT sources, at least three consignments of logs totalling over 12,000cbm is likely to be handled at Calcutta dock in the week beginning August 6.
