Monsoon brightens up crop prospects in Gujarat

Ahmedabad: After a month long delay, the state received much needed monsoon lashes. The crop prospects improved following the last mintier rains. However crop in some part of saurashtra and North Gujarat has been damaged. Especially sesame and grounding crop in Saurastra and pulses in North Gujarat severely affected, said trade sources. According to traders bumper Kharif crops of Gujarat have been receding with the monsoon playing truant this season. Although monsoon is advancing in the state, distribution remained uneven, which would lower yields of various standing crop. Presently, there is a backlog of 30 per cent sowing in bajra in kutch and banaskantha districts which have received scanty rains. The Banaskantha is the largest castor growing district.
