Suggestions invited on E-commerce Act

Government on Monday invited suggestions from trade and industry on the proposed Electronic Commerce Act being considered by the law ministry. The draft Act has been put on the website of National Informatics Centre on Sunday to facilitate people to put their views on the matter, an official release said in New Delhi. The Electronic Commerce Support Act is also being put on the internet site along with Electronic Commerce Act. It can be accessed from the site of www.commin.nic.in.

Autodesk sets up developer consultancy group

Computer-aided designing (CAD) and engineering software global leader, Autodesk Inc, has set up its third developer consultancy group (DCG) in India to serve developers associated with it across the world. "The full-fledged DCG set up at Bangalore to respond to the queries of over 3,000 developers of the company across the world is in pursuance of its promise to the Foreign Investment Promotion Board (FIPB) in February 1999," Autodesk India business development manager for Saarc operations Satish Bhave told PTI in Mumbai on Wednesday. The company's other DCGs are located in the US and Switzerland.

Summit Data unveils Umax scanners

Summit Data Products, national distributor for Umax scanners in the country, has introduced a new range of Umax scanners primarily designed for entry-level users. The new models in the Astra series, Astra 2000U and 2000P are set to redefine scanning technology by offering 600 x 12000 DPI optical resolution and 36 bits colour quality combined with absolute ease of use. Astra 2000U comes with an advanced USB interface for a Windows compatible computer interface or Macintosh system and Astra 2000P comes with parallel and printer port for easy installation. Some new innovative features available in Astra 2000P and Astra 2000U are Vista Scan with Magic Match, Vista Shuttle which can incorporate images into a greeting card, card and screen savers, flyers, calendars or wallpapers by one click of a button.

Mehndiratta appointed country head of Alcatel

Alcatel Cables and Components on Monday appointed Anil Mehndiratta as the director and country manager for India. Mehndiratta replaces Ramesh Khatri who has been moved back to Alcatel US on a new assignment, a company release said. He will be based in New Delhi and report to the Alcatel's Paris headquarters. Alcatel builds next generation networks, delivers integrated end-to-end voice and data communications solutions to established and new carriers, as well as enterprises and consumers worldwide.
