KOCHI: Cash prices of black pepper in the Kochi pepper market firmed up during the week ended Friday on tight supply. Trade sources, however, see prices to come down further in the coming week. "The intermittent rains lashing the Central Kerala has interrupted the supply line putting an upward pressure on prices", a Kochi-based trader said.Farmers are also not willing to part with their stocks as the reports about a possible crop failure in the coming season following inclement weather is doing rounds in the market. "The effect of weather on the next crop is being watched closely. Farmers, in view of bad prices and market rumours are hesitant to part with their carryover stock", trade sources said.
Quotes have inched up marginally as traders are covering their positions, sources said.
