Mumbai, July 25: The Nationalist Congress Party led by Sharad Pawar on Sunday received a shot in the arm with the entry of five independent ministers who had resigned on Saturday from the Narayan Rane ministry. A senior BJP leader and a former minister from the tribal infested Kalwan Taluka of Nashik district AT Pawar also entered into the NCP in the presence of Pawar and state NCP president Chhagan Bhujbal here. Moreover, Vinay Kore from the Warna Group of industries specialised in agro-based and milk based products from Warnagar in Kolhapur has also joined the party and has expressed his desire to contest the ensuing state assembly elections as the NCP sponsored candidate. It must be mentioned here that Kores have taken an initiative along with the state government to implement the "wired village" programme under which nearly 70 villages would be connected through internet.
The list of former independent ministers include Anil Deshmukh (Katol in Nagpur district) Dilip Solap (Barshi in Solapur district),Tukaram Dighole (Sinnar in Nashik district), Vijaykumar Gavit (Nandurbar) and Shivajirao Naik (Battis Shirala in Sangli district). These ministers had submitted there resignations early at 10 am on Saturday however, the chief minister Narayan Rane had announced later in the evening that they have been sacked from the ministry as they had lost his confidence.
A visibly happy Pawar and Bhujbal told reporters that these former ministers have not joined party with any pre-condition. Anil Deshmukh and Dilip Sopal said that they had fulfilled their promise to support the ruling Shiv Sena-BJP alliance government for four and half years and now they see that NCP was the only party which could provide a stable government in the state."The decision to join the NCP was taken with a sole objective of installing the NCP government in the state," Sopal said.
Pawar and Bhujbal said that nearly 32 of the total 44 independent legislators from the dissolved state assembly are likely to join the NCP shortly. Bhujbal saidthat of these, nine independents have already held talks with him and Pawar. The names of these independents include : B Gudge (Khatau in Satara district), Madan Pisa (Wai in Satara district), Ramraje Nimbalkar (Phaltan in Satara district), Aji Ghorpade (Kawathe Mahankal in Sangli district), Rajendra Deshmukh (Atpadi in Sangli district), Namdeo Bhoite (Radhanagri in Kolhapur), Babanrao Shinde (Mada in Solapur district), PD Patil (Karhad in Satara district) and Rajendra Shingne (Buldhana).
On a question on a large number of ticker seekers, Pawar said that it clearly shows that the people of this state wants a parivartan (change in rule) and a transparent governance. "NCP is a viable alternative to bring back the lost importance and pre-eminence of Maharashtra on the industrial front," he opined.
On NCP forming a grand alliance of secular parties in the country, Pawar said that he would hold talks on Monday at New Delhi with newly appointed Janata Dal president Deve Gowda, Samajwadi Party president,Republican Party of India led by Ramdas Athavale, Forward Block leaders and former prime minister Chandrashekhar. He said that his party which was newly formed would contest ensuing parliamentary elections with its allies in 14 to 15 states.
He added that the number of candidates would be finalised only after receiving reports from party observers. On the recent feud between Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray's son Uddhav and his nephew Raj, Pawar commented that it was a family affair. However, he drew a parallel between the happenings taking place in Thackeray family and the state of affairs of company run by four brothers at the time of liquidation.
Meanwhile, Republican Party of India president Ramdas Athavale who has entered into an electoral pact with the NCP on Sunday announced the expulsion of former parliamentarians and party leaders RS Gavai and Jogendra Kawade from the party. These leaders have decided to ally with the Sonia Congress.
