Voluntary contributions to the National Defence Fund from individuals as well as organisations are accepted in cash, cheques/drafts at designated branches of the State Bankof India throughout the country. Cheques/drafts should be drawn in the favour of the National Defence Fund. Donations can also be sent through money orders through post offices, for which no service charges are levied. Donations abroad can be deposited with local Indian missions/embassies. Donations can also be sent to: The Secretary, National Defence Fund, Prime Minister's Office, South Block, New Delhi-110 001.
VSNL scheme
The Videsh Sanchar Nigam Ltd (VSNL) has appealed for contributions from the general public for the National Defence Fund. It is offering free Internet time for those who are contributing to the fund. For an amount of Rs 5,000 donated, VSNL is offering free Internet time of 25 hours. For those who donate Rs 10,000, they are offering 50 hours free Net access. Those who want to make a donation can send a demand draft in favour of the National Defence Fund, payable at New Delhi, addressed to The DGM (Marketing), 12th Floor, Videsh Sanchar Bhavan, M G Road, Mumbai-400 001.
CM'sArmy Welfare Fund
The Assam government has created a Chief Minister's Welfare Fund. A current account has been opened in the State Bank of India, Dispur branch, for the purpose. The account number is 010 000 50653.
Members of the public, organisations, industries, central/state public sector undertakings, Central/state government officers and employees are requested to generously contribute to the Chief Minister's Army Welfare Fund. Donations will be received directly by the State Bank of India, Dispur branch, for deposit into the above account by cash/cheque/draft. Donations will also be received by cheque/draft in the CM's secretariat by the principal private secretary to the chief minister. Donations may also be received by the deputy commissioners and sub-divisional officers (civil).

Free Legal advice
The Bar Association of India will offer free legal advice to the legal heirs of the soldiers who have laid down their lives in the Kargil conflict. The misery of suffering families is aggravated by legal problems which may arise for determining eligible legal heirs to claim and receive their due entitlement legitimately. The association, with its wide-spread membership all over the country will provide legal assistance free of cost to the heirs of the martyrs.
