Mumbai, July 23: The Indian National Trade Union Congress, a representative trade union with a record 5.50 members and 300 affiliates in Maharashtra though did not formally split, a section owing allegiance to Sharad Pawar has exhorted its members to support the Nationalist Congress Party in the coming Lok Sabha and state assembly elections.Intuc working president Vijay Kamble and general secretary Sachin Aher also announced that it would stood by the policies and stand taken by Pawar led NCP. A faction led by an arch rival of Sharad Pawar, Govindrao Adik and the Intuc's working committee have already extended support to the Congress led by Sonia Gandhi.
Intuc owing allegiance to Pawar also decided not to boycott but to contest the presidential election slated for July 29 with an objective to get a supremacy. Adik is likely to make it a prestige issue and it will be a real show of strength between pro and anti Pawar groups within the Intuc.
Addressing a rally at the Intuc headquarter here, Pawar saidthat thoughthe ongoing liberalisation policies would continue, NCP would give a human face to it. He assured the gathering that the interest of the workers would be protected.
