Mumbai, July 20: Spices witnessed hectic trading at the Navi Mumbai market for the week ended Jul 16. Prices of clove shot up while turmeric and cumin shot up in solidarity with clove. While corainder continued to remain steady at low levels. Fenugreek and ajwainseeds edged up while dillseeds mainted levels registered in the previous week. Turmeric: After previous week's rally prices retreated and lost about Rs 100 per quintal on fresh selling. In Sangli, prices moved at Rs 3,200 for spot and Rs 3,150-3,200 for truckloads. In Mumbai Free-On-Lorry (FOL) prices for Nizamabad were Rs 3,200/3,250 (3,400/3,450 ), Rs 3,000-3,050 (3,100-3,150 ) for Cuddapah variety, Rs 2,950-3,000 (3,100/3,150) for Duggirala variety and Rs 3,300/3,350 (Rs 3,550/3,650 ) for the Sangli polished turmeric finger variety per quintal.
Corainder: Prices exteneded gains of Rs 25 on emergence of South's demand. The Indore average was Rs 1,300-1,325 while Kanpur average was Rs 1,350-1,400. 5 per cent bold was qoted at Rs 1,600/1,625.The 100 per cent split M/C was easy at Rs 975-1,000 per quintal.
Cumin: the prices were steady during the week. The one-per cent M/C for Singapore/Dubai quality was in a narrow band of Rs 1,275/1,300 while for Europe it ruled steady at around Rs 1,400/1,425. The four-per cent M/C was around Rs 1,200/1,225 per 20 kilograms FOL Mumbai.
Fennel: In sympathy with cummin prices edged up slightly. Dubai/Singapore quality was at Rs 850-860 and for London/Europe quality at Rs 900-950 (Rs 900-950) per 20 kg at FOB Mumbai.
Fenugreek: Prices shot up by Rs 50 per quintal on good export demand. The M/C best bold ruled at Rs 2,150-2,200, medium best machine cleaned at Rs 1,925/1,950 and average m/c Rs 1,875-1,900 .
Dill seed: Market continued to strong amidst tight supplies. The one-per cent M/C was steady at Rs 4,100-4,150 (4050/4,100) and 11 per cent FAQ slightly lower at Rs 3,700-3,800. New crop was steady at Rs 4,300-4,400 per quintal FOL Mumbai.
Ajwain: Prices ruled firm on limited supplies. Jamnagar movedbetween Rs 6,200-6,800, MP superior was higher at Rs 7,000-7,500 (6,300/6,500) and medium at Rs 6,000/6,500 (5,800-6,000) per quintal FOL Mumbai.
Chillies: Continued to rally on poor supplies of good quality. Chillies with stem reduced to Rs 3,400-3,500 (Rs 3,300-3,400) while chillies without stem ruled steady at Rs 4,500-4,600 per quintal FOB Mumbai.
Tamarind: Firm trend continued to prevail in local and upcountry advices. Basket ruled at Rs 3,400 (Rs 3,400-3,450), slab at Rs 3,500 (3,500/3,600) while consumer packs were lower at Rs 3,700-3,800.
Black pepper: Prices fluctuated in a narrow range. Activities were moderate. Cochin ready delivery, ungarbled loose ruled at Rs 183 per kilogram. In the futures section, Cochin July delivery nosedived at Rs 190.5 (191.1) and August delivery at Rs 188 (188.1) per kg FOB Cochin. The MG-1 FOB Cochin was Rs 198 (Rs 198) and FOL Mumbai Rs 195 (195) per kg.
Ginger: Prices remained easy. NUGC good FOB Cochin traded at Rs 88,000 (89,000) and FOL Mumbai at Rs85,000 (87,000) per MT.
Sesameseeds: Prices remained almost steady. The 98x2 was quoted around Rs 3,050-3,100 , while 95x2 was Rs 2,900/3,000. Hulled edged up as supplies dried up and was traded at Rs 4,200/4,250 (4,250-4,250).
Peanuts: Prices ruled steady on better supplies. Prices of 45/50 counts were Rs 2,450/2,500 , 50/60 counts at Rs 2,350--2,500 and 60/70 counts at Rs 2,275-2,325 and 70/80 counts at Rs 2,225/2,275 and 80/90 counts at Rs 2,125/2,175.
