BJP hopeful of 300 seats
N Madhavan
Chennai, July 20: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is confident that its National Democratic Alliance (NDA) would easily get 300 seats in the forthcoming elections and that the alliance was working towards achieving a two-third majority in the Lok Sabha. This was stated by BJP party spokesman M Venkaiah Naidu to media in Chennai on Tuesday. Giving reasons for the party's confidence, Naidu said that everything currently was in favour of BJP and NDA, especially after the dissolution of Lok Sabha while it is not so in the case of opposition. The government has put up a commendable performance economically, militarily and diplomatically and the main thrust of the NDA campaign would be `continuity for good governance'. The alliance would go to the people seeking comfortable mandate for continuing its good work, he said. Government, he added, had many achievements up its sleeves such as resolving of the Cauvery issue, Pokhran -II, Agni-II, record food grain production, crop insurance, its handling of the Kargilissue and a fifteen month government which was without any scam or major communal tension or riots. Economically, the country is strong as never before with an all time low inflation, stable rupee and comfortable foreign exchange reserves of over $ 33 billion.Copyright © 1999 Indian Express Newspapers (Bombay) Ltd.
