Both the stamp releases of June are visually attractive and thematically interesting and are therefore collector's items, says Pulak Gupta, secretary, Philatelic Society.Issued on June 30, the multi-theme colourful stamp on Mizoram Accord revolves around the basic idea of peace, prosperity and stability. The stamp commemorates the accord signed between the government of India and the MizoNational Front ultras on June 30, 1986. The design is artistic and thoughtful.
Explaining the design, Pulak says: ``The firm handshake symbolises the accord and has political relevance. The richly embroidered Mizo women's festive dress `Punchai' highlights peace and harmony, and the rich foliage at Mizo's hilly terrain depicts the scenic beauty of the land of highlanders.'' The stamp can be collected in a series of mountains, scenery, tapestry, airplane etc.
The First day cover, depicting a white peace pigeon against the backdrop of handwoven tapestry, reinforces the concept of peace and progress brought about by theaccord.
The second stamp of the month issued on June 26 commemorates the 125th anniversary of Mumbai Port Trust. The multi-picture stamp with ship and Taj Mahal hotel in the background, can be collected under various heads - ships, navy, architecture, says Pulak.
These stamps are significant for students of geography and general collectors. And they will be available for sale at all the philatelic bureaus and philatelic counters for six months.
