Rates likely to remain steady

Mumbai, July 11: Freight rates for nine-tonne load vehicles from Mumbai to rest of the country are likely to remain range-bound this week, according to transporters.

Last week, the rates to a few states were stable while to the remaining places the rates moved in a Rs 200-1,500 range.

In the northern region, the rates to Jammu & Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh were steady. Freight rates to Delhi stablised at Rs 12,700, a Rs 300 dip over last week's rates though during the week some transporters booked their trucks for even Rs 12,000.

The fall in the Delhi's freight rates had an impact on Haryana and Punjab. The truck rates to these states moved down by Rs 100-500. Bihar was, perhaps, the sole exception in the northern region as rates to the state showed an upward revision.

The Mumbai to Patna rates went up by Rs 600 to Rs 18,800, while freight rates to Jamshedpur were up by Rs 300 to Rs 16,000. Rates to Lucknow (in Uttar Pradesh) declined by Rs 200 to Rs 13,500. Those to Meerut and Agra dropped by Rs 600and Rs 500 each to Rs 12,400 and Rs 12,500, respectively. The rates to western states remained steady.

In the eastern sector, the rates to Assam continued the upward rally this week also. The rates to Guwahati increased by Rs 1,000 to Rs 33,500. The rates to remaining places in the state went up by Rs 500 each.

The Mumbai to Calcutta rates increased to Rs 18,700, while to remaining places in the eastern region the rates remained steady. In south, the truck rates to a few places decreased while to remaining cities the rates remained stable.

The Mumbai to Vizag rated dipped by Rs 600 to Rs 12,000. The rates to Bangalore were down by Rs 400 to Rs 8,200. The Mumbai to Chennai truck rates decreased by Rs 300 to Rs 12,500 while rates to Cochin were down by Rs 400 to Rs 13,200.
