Kargil cause 

 
BPL donates phones, audio systems

BPL Group has donated satellite and cordless phones, audio systems and colour television sets to the defence forces. It handed over 10 Iridium satellite phones to Lt Gen Prakash Gokarn at Sena Bhawan, New Delhi. It also donated 2,000 transistor radios, 300 colour television sets and 60 cordless phones to the army at Srinagar base to be used at various army hospitals. BPL companies and employees have decided to contribute seperately to the Kargil relief fund, said a BPL communique.

Silverline chief donates Rs 51 lakh

Silverline Industries chairman Ravi Subramaniam donated Rs 51 lakh for Kargil fund to prime minister AB Vajpayee on July 5, in Delhi.

United India gives Rs 40.78 lakh

The Chennai-based United India Insurance Company Ltd has donated Rs 40.78 lakh to the National Defence Fund. According to a company press release, its employees had contributed one day's salary for the fund. One of the employees of Ludhiana office had donated halfmonth's salary and another Chennai office employee had contributed a month's salary. The contributions were handed over to the ministry of finance by chairman and managing director KN Bhandari.

ITI gives Rs 68 lakh

ITI Ltd has mopped up Rs 68.05 lakh towards Kargil relief fund and the sum has been handed over to the prime minister. Besides this, Rs 50,000 was raised by ITI officers' Ladies Association towards the relief fund.

Kudremukh Iron Ore contribution

Kudremukh Iron Ore Company has donated Rs 40 lakh towards Kargil relief fund. A cheque was handed over to the prime minister on July 8 in New Delhi.

Sahara India floats Rs 50cr fund

Sahara India on Friday floated a Rs 50 crore fund for the families of defence personnel killed in the Kargil conflict and for the rehabilitation of the disabled soldiers. Announcing the package `Sahara Sankalp,' Sahara Indian Kartavya Council director Amitabh Bachchan said, ``We are here to give moral support to the families and children of thebrave soldiers who have given their lives to protect us.''
