DoT official denies pact on 15% interim revenue share

Siddharth Zarabi
New Delhi, July 8: Barely 48 hours after the Cabinet cleared the telecom package, there is confusion over the 15 per cent interim revenue-sharing proposed in the Cabinet note. A Department of Telecom (DoT) official on Thursday said the Cabinet has not cleared any interim revenue share arrangement.

On the other hand, information and broadcasting minister and government spokesperson Pramod Mahajan had told reporters after Tuesday's Cabinet meeting that a 15 per cent interim revenue share arrangement has been cleared. This confusion could delay existing operators' decision to shift to revenue-sharing, as DoT will demand a much higher percentage of revenue share.
