New Delhi, July 6: Despite the recession in the automobile industry showing signs of weakening, global car majors are eluding showcasing their hot wheels at the forthcoming Delhi International Motor Show 1999 (DIMS).
Barring Maruti Udyog Ltd, Daewoo Motor India Ltd, Hyundai Motor India Ltd and Hindustan Motors Ltd, rest of car makers would be absent from the five-day event beginning September 16, 1999.
Incidentally, ITE India Pvt Ltd, organisers of the show, had originally scheduled to hold the event in January this year but with industry players refusing to participate, the fair was postponed to September.
According to an official with ITE India, "The foreign participants had refused to come to India, particularly at a time when the industry, the world over, was gripped with a demand recession. Keeping in view the interests of the industry, we had decided to reschedule the event."
ITE India had earlier promised to bring together the greatest names in the global auto industry like Audi, BMW andPeugeot, besides a host of international tyre majors like Goodyear, Bridgestone, Pireli Tyres and JK Tyres.
Billed as the last corporate motor show of the century, DIMS would, however, seek to educate the masses about clean air at a theme pavilion focussed on Euro-I and Euro-II emission norms. In this pavilion called `Green Delhi', pollution control board is expected to play a pivotal role. Besides, CNG kit manufacturers have also been invited to participate in the event.
To be inaugurated by Delhi chief minister Sheila Dixit, the show, ite claims, will present the latest technologies in lubricants, tyres, batteries, components, accessories, finance companies.
"This show is expected to unroll an interactive venue for strategic alliances, technology transfers and sub-contracting partnerships since most of the auto majors are out-sourcing the manufacturers of quality components in India for their cars."
The organisers feel that DIMS would become a true catalyst to the automobile industry providing amplebusiness opportunities and tie-ups.
