Tisco to donate Rs 4.5 croreTata Steel will donate Rs 2 crore for soldiers fighting in Kargil with its employees deciding to contribute their one day's wage amounting to a total Rs 1.5 crore, Tisco sources said. The company as a corporate body will contribute Rs 50 lakh and the money as well as the contribution from the workers will be sent to national defence fund, a Tisco release said.
CII to generate Rs 3 crore
Members of the Confederation of Indian Industry have committed over Rs 1.25 crore to the CII Kargil fund. The fund would essentially help to rehabilitate the victims and their families affected by the `war' in Kargil. CII said it expected to build a corpus of Rs 3 crore and with the interest generated would support and finance projects and schemes to assist
rehabilitate the sufferers. The fund would be administered by a high level advisory committee headed by CII president, Rahul Bajaj.
MPT workers' contributin
Employees of the Mumbai Port Trust (MPT) have decidedto contribute a day's salary towards the relief fund for soldiers fighting in Kargil. The approximate amount of money thus collected would be about Rs 60 lakh, a statement said.
Sahara unveils `Sahara Sankalp'
The Sahara group of companies under the aegis of `Sahara Sankalp' has decided to extend financial, social, emotional and cultural security to families of the martyrs killed in the Kargil-Drass-Batalik sectors. A press release said, "Our society tend to forget the invaluable contribution of the soldiers towards the nation after a gruesome war. The objective of `Sahara Sankalp' is to help and support them for all times to come."
Bank of Punjab to collect funds
The Bank of Punjab has endeavored to collect funds for the welfare of families of Kargil soldiers through its network of 50 branches across the country. The bank will collect cheques, DDs and payorders without any service charge.
