Mumbai, July 4: Network marketing firm Modicare plans to get into colour cosmetics next year to take on the multinational might of Hindustan Lever which has recently floated its direct marketing firm `Aviance'.``We have established our distributor base which is growing at the rate of 20,000 distributors per month. After having started off with homecare products like detergents, we have launched a host of personal care products and have plans to launch colour cosmetics next year,'' Modicare vice-chairman and managing director Samir Modi told The Financial Express.
Modicare is also drawing up plans to float 100 per cent subsidiaries in neighbouring countries like Bangladesh, Nepal, Sri Lanka and also Dubai to market its products. ``This will be done after studying the rules and regulations of these countries,'' said Modi.
Modicare plans to launch colour cosmetics in the price range of mid-size to premium which will directly compete with similar ranges in Lakme, Revlon and Maybelline at the retailend, and with Avon, Oriflame and Aviance at the direct marketing (DM) level. Recently, Modicare rolled out a personal care and body care products under the umbrella brand `Essential'. The brand name for colour cosmetics is yet to be decided.
The company is also holding talks with other companies to market products which fall outside Modicare's ambit through its distributor base. ``We have established a base of DM consultants, and we would like to exploit our strength to market other companies' brands, as long as the products do not compete with our range,'' said Modi.
According to Modi, Modicare currently has a distributor base to 2.6 lakh consultants (or distributors). Modi said that the company's sales are growing at the rate of 20-25 per cent. The turnover of the company was, however, not disclosed. The company plans to launch 30 products in this financial year. It launched around 15 products in the previous quarter.
