Green Globe for Oberoi groupThree hotels of the Oberoi group have received prestigious Green Globe certificates from the World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC) for 1998-99. Green Globe commended the deluxe Oberoi Hotels and Resorts in Shimla and Bangalore, and the first class international Trident Hotel in Udaipur-the only hotels in India to receive such recognition from Green Globe-this year. The hotels were recognised for their innovative environment management programmes.
This recognition reaffirms the Oberoi group's dedication and commitment towards environmental preservation, as well as the growth and sustenance of the travel and tourism industry. Ravi Bhoothalingam, president, the Oberoi group, said: ``A conscious environmental effort in unison with our hotel's staff, customers and the local communities, significantly contributed towards the Green Globe distinction.''
The Cecil, Shimla, winner of the `Green Globe Award' in 1998, has been accorded with a certificate for continuedenvironmental practices from Green Globe, along with The Oberoi, Bangalore, for the year, 1998-99. This certificate recognises The Cecil's sustained environmental preservation efforts towards greening of the hotel precincts and its surrounding environment.
The Trident Udaipur was also accorded with a Green Globe Certificate of achievement for 1998-99, for continued good practices.
