Delhi, July 1: Both the precious metals showed a soaring tendency on Thursday on encouraging overseas advices. New York silver future edged up by 8 cents to 528 cents an ounce coupled with restricted arrival of imported silver, spot silver .999 fineness, on the local market flared up from Rs 7845 to Rs 7980 a kg on strong local demand and silver weekly delivery, on speculative buying and selling, shot up from Rs 7835 to Rs 7965 a kg.Silver coins flared up by Rs 100 at Rs 10,600-10,800 per 100 pieces in sympathy. Gold on the overseas market edged up from $261 to $262-263 an ounce and import at these rates turned unprofitable, consequently, gold biscuit and standard mint gold firmed up by Rs 25 at Rs 4115 and Rs 4125 per 10 gram, respectively.
Gold sovereign remained unchanged at Rs 3650-3675 per 8 gram.
Pulses gain
In mixed market conditions, rising tendency in wheat at the local grains and pulses market was arrested on Thursday.
Wheat dara, at the local market, slipped by Rs 3 at Rs 660-665a quintal due to weak demand from eastern Indian buyers and roller flour mill atta and maida dipped by Rs 2-5 per bag due to poor demand from Bihar, Nepal and eastern regions.
Rice sela permal also declined by Rs 25 at Rs 915-1100 a quintal due to sluggish demand from eastern Indian buyers. Red maize firmed up by Rs 20 at Rs 670 a quintal as supply line was totally shattered due to heavy rains.Among pulses, urad Rangoon, moong, masoor and gram Rajasthani recorded a gain of Rs 10-25 a quintal due to restricted inflow coupled with weak demand from Bihar.
Sunflower oil tumbles
Palmolein in Malaysia eased by $2.5 to $410 a tonne and August shipment deals were offered at $402 per tonne, demand in mill delivery edible oils remained sluggish. Sunflower oil tumbled down by Rs 70 at Rs 2480 a quintal and mustard oil expeller dipped by Rs 20 at Rs 3080 a quintal on selling pressure from Punjab and Rajasthan.
Sunflower oil in Punjab dipped to Rs 2380 a quintal. Sesame oil prices remained subdued as redsesame prices in West Bengal plummeted to Rs 950-1175 a quintal. White sesame cakes were reported out of stock and red sesame cakes were quoted at Rs 600-650 a quintal.
Sugar rises
Though lakh of bags of sugar of June quota for co-operative and public sector mills were reported unsold, yet private millers pushed up prices of mill delivery sugar by Rs 5-15 a quintal.
Mawana sugar was traded at Rs 1510-1520, Modi at Rs 1420, Bagpat at Rs 1415, Nadehi at Rs 1390 and tax-paid Shamli at Rs 1517 a quintal. Upcountry demand at higher rates remained dull.
Zeera drifts lower
Mace domestic and imported went down from Rs 590-635 to Rs 560-600 a kg on profit-taking selling by the stockists coupled with slack demand. Zeera, on stockists offerings, drifted lower by Rs 50 a quintal while poppyseed edged up by Rs 1-2 a kg due to restricted supply from Rajasthan and MP.
Among dry fruits, almond California shot up from Rs 7650 to Rs 8000 per 40 kg due to mutual buying and selling among the leadingimporters. Similarly, its kernel which moved up from Rs 285 to Rs 310, plummeted to Rs 300 a kg on profit-taking selling by the stockists.
Menthol oil declines
In the wake of increasing arrivals of new mentha oil as against continued downside in export demand, local market witnessed further erosion of prices in menthol oil, flake and bold by Rs 10-15 at Rs 340, Rs 460 and Rs 520 per kg. DMO and Thymol ruled easy.
Rest of the chemicals continued to remain featureless in lack-lustre trading.
Copper wire bar up
Copper wire bar, rod and its wire continuing uptrend and gained on Thursday by Rs 3-3.50 at Rs 114, Rs 118-119 and Rs 122 a kg and copper utensil, mixed scrap and wire scrap as well shot up by Rs 2.25 to Rs 88 and Rs 98-99 per kg fuelled by the news of a Rs 7 per kg hike in copper rod sales prices affected by the HCL.
Brass products also witnessed uprise as chadripital, brass accessories, Bharat scrap, Huny scrap and brass sheet cutting moved up by 50 paise to Re one per kg dueto shortage of arrivals. Zinc slab fell by 50 paise per kg after HZL reduced zinc slab prices by Re 1.50 per kg.
Nickel plate (4x4 and 9x9) also drifted lower by Rs 1-2 per kg. Despite HZL slashing lead ingot sales prices by Re one per kg, local prices of Broken Heel, lead ingot edged up by Rs 2 at Rs 43 per kg due to inventories concerns. Lead ingot desi soft and hard marked up by 25 paise per kg.
