Silver bullish, crosses Rs 8000 mark; g'nut oil down

Mumbai, June 29: Silver prices hardened as it crossed Rs 8,000-mark on the bullion market here today. Gold also finished higher in sympathy.

Silver .999 shot up by Rs 110 at Rs 7,980 per kg. Silver .916 was up by Rs 85 at Rs 7,820 per kg in sympathy. Fresh industrial demand influenced the upsurge while negligible arrivals coupled with bullish Delhi and global advices kept offerings limited. Traders reported volume of busines in silver around 550/600 kg today while inflow remained at a low ebb. In the international market the white metal finished higher at $5.14 as against $5.09 per ounce earlier.

Meanwhile standard gold finished Rs 10 higher at Rs 4,110 per 10 gm. so was gold .22 carat at Rs 3,800 per 10 gm. Prices of gold biscuit (116.50 gm.) rose by Rs 100 at Rs 48,200 per piece. Physical demand for gold was dull but shortage of nearby supplies and higher global advices kept prices firm.

Harder dollar value against rupee also prompted stray speculative interest for gold. In the overseas market goldclosed at $261.40 as against $260.75 per ounce previously.

G'nut oil drops

Groundnut oil eased further on the oil,oilseeds market here today. Castorseed and its oil were weak in the ready delivery while forward market remained firm.

Groundnut oil dropped by Rs 3 at Rs 370 per 10 kg. in absence of fresh buying interest. In Rajkot prices fell by Rs 5 at Rs 595/600 per 15 kg.Imported palm oil nosedived by Rs 6 at Rs 233 per 10 kg. Continued arrivals at Mumbai port coupled with weak global advices attributed to the setback in the prices, according to market sources. Palm oil prices in the overseas market ruled weak at $405 before concluding at $410 per tonne for nearby delivery. Long deliveries were available at $400/405 per tonne. Castor oil reacted by Rs 3 at Rs 383/395 per 10 kg on sluggish overseas interest.

Castorseed ready was slipped by Rs 15 at Rs 1759/1765 per quintal in sympathy.

In the futures section castorseed September delivery recovered from Rs 1,774 to Rs 1,779 per quintal onlight short covering. In Ahmedabad prices placed higher at Rs 1,781 while in Rajkot it was closed at Rs 1,788 per quintal.

Sugar steady

A steady trend prevailed on the sugar market. Activity was modest.M-30 were placed at Rs 1440-1510 and S-30 at Rs 1418-1440 a quintal ex-godown. Ex-octroi checkpost, the price ruled at Rs 1415-1450 and at Rs 1402-1410 respectively.

Delivery orders for M-30 fetched Rs 1375-1380 and for S-30 at Rs 1355-1360 in Kolhapur line.

Among imported sugar, white Thai was on offer at Rs 1300-1305 ex-Kandla while yellow Brazillian ruled ex-godown at Rs 1220-1225, exclusive of sales tax.

Grains unchanged

A quietly steady condition was in evidence on the grains market as business passing was on the low side.

Wheat north Guajrat Sonaklyan ruled at Rs 735-750 and 496 at Rs 775-800 a quintal. MP 147 were on offer at Rs 750-850 while Sarbati were traded in the range of Rs 900-1400.

Rice SLO were placed at Rs 1050-1150, Perimal average at Rs 900-1100 and superior atRs 1200-1500.

Among pulses, kabuli gram A-2 were on offer at Rs 3200-3300, B-2 at Rs 2800, C-2 at Rs 1800-2000 and natural at Rs 2200-2300. Green peas USA Rumba/Heart were quoted at Rs 1250-1275 and Canadian at Rs 800-940. White peas Canadian ruled at Rs 911-921.

Yarn dull

A dull condition continued on the yarn market on very sluggish activity.Viscose filament yarn bright cones first quality Century Rayon 150dn were placed at Rs 196, 120dn at Rs 206. 100dn at Rs 215 and 75dn at Rs 245 a kg. 120dn dull cones were indicated at Rs 212.

Nylon yarn 15/1/0dn Shreelon/Modipon found sellers at Rs 230. Gujnil 20/1/0dn ruled at Rs 202 and 30/1/0dn at Rs 300. 111/24/0dn were quoted at Rs 150.

Cotton easy

An easy trend continued on the cotton market following sustained selling pressure and slack mill demand.V-797 at Rs 12,700-13,300, Wagad at Rs 12,200 and kalan-ginned at Rs 11,700 a candy slid by Rs 100 to 150 spot.

Delhi

Mace moved up from Rs 470-535 to Rs 550-600 a kg due torestricted supply from Kochi and Singapore coupled with hectic buying by the stockists and nutmeg also firmed up by Rs 15 at Rs 225 a kg. Zeera, on stockists buying, flared up by Rs 50 a quintal.

Among dry fruits, almond California further shot up by Rs 250 at Rs 7700 per 40 kg and its kernel edged up by Rs 7 at Rs 288 a kg.
