The Bank of Maharashtra has contributed Rs 21 lakh to the national fund for the rehabilitation of the families of Kargil martyrs and wounded soldiers. The cheque was handed over to Union finance minister Yashwant Sinha.

Rs 5 lakh handed over to war widow

A cheque for Rs 5 lakh was handed over to Jalaja Viswanthan, the widow of Lt Col Viswanathan who laid his life fighting the Pakistani intruders in Kargil recently, by the Kerala chief minister EK Nayanar on behalf of the state government on Sunday.

Haryana powermen donate Rs 1 crore

The Haryana government power sector employees have decided to contribute Rs 1.04 crore towards the chief minister's war heroes relief fund. About 45,000 officials of Haryana Vidyut Prasaran Nigam, Haryana Power Generation Corporation, Uttar Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam and Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam have volunteered to donate one day's salary towards the fund.
