Over 4 lakh Concor shares change hands

Aabhas Pandya
The Container Corporation counter on Bombay Stock Exchange reported the highest ever volume with 4.33 lakh shares being traded on the Bombay bourse. This included one negotiated deal of 3 lakh shares at Rs 185, valued at Rs 5.55 crore. The average daily volume at the relatively illiquid counter is in the range of 200-500 shares. The scrip opened at Rs 190 on BSE and saw a high of Rs 192 before closing at Rs 185. While the source of the deal could not be confirmed, the market was abuzz with the name of Morgan Stanley. The scrip has been a long time favourite of Morgan Stanley Growth Fund.

MTNL, VSNL back as favourites

Hectic activity was also witnessed at two other PSU counters and telecom giants - VSNL and MTNL. A negotiated deal for 28000 shares took place at the VSNL counter at Rs 902 per share. On June 18, a negotiated deal for 25000 shares was stuck at the counter at a price of Rs 900 per share. The MTNL counter, on the other hand, saw a volume of 20.12 lakh shares. The scrip, however, fellmarginally from Monday's close of Rs 202.15 to Rs 201. On Monday, the MTNL counter had shot up from its opening price of Rs 191 to close above the Rs 200-level on a volume of 31.57 lakh.

DSQ hits the circuit

The DSQ Software counter hit the upper end of the circuit filter as soon as it opened on the Bombay Stock Exchange. Throughout the day, the scrip remained frozen and closed at its opening price of Rs 243.35. The counter saw a volume of 20,500 shares. The scrip had closed at Rs 225.35 on Monday at the BSE. The scrip has attracted buying interest on unconfirmed reports that the promoters were offering 30 per cent of the equity capital of the company to Bank of America at a price of Rs 275 per share against the current market price of Rs 243.35. The BankAm stake would go to 51 per cent later, said a market source. The scrip had hit the upper band on Monday too, with a volume of 83,400 shares. The scrip has attracted an additional volatility margin (AVM) of 30 per cent.

Negotiateddeals

Other negotiated deals on BSE included Asian Paints with 53,000 shares changing hands at Rs 325.85, Ashok Leyland (35,000 shares at Rs 76), Carrier aircon (35,000 shares at Rs 215), HDFC (4000 shares at Rs 2292), Hindalco (19,000 shares at Rs 665) and Indusind Bank (1.52 lakh shares at Rs 18).
