Microsoft's anti-piracy features

Microsoft has added anti-piracy features to its products to make it easier for PC vendors, consumers and law-enforcement officials to identify illegal software quickly and easily. Three new security features on Windows 98 are a 3-D hologram on the hub, with word genuine appearing in the light, a new certificate of authenticity, now on the cover of the product manual and containing a special heat sensitive strip, a watermark and a new high security design and an ingenious heat-sensitive strip across the top of each product manual.

PCS to sell SMC products

The OEM division of PCS Industries has joined hands with SMC, US, to market its networking range of products. The company's product positioned in the mid range networking products will compete with 3 Com & Intel. With this strategic tie-up, PCS fills the vacuum that was existent in the mid range market.

CA to manage MUL network

Maruti Udyog has decided to implement Computer AssociatesInternational's Unicenter TNG to improve management of its expanding computer network while boosting service levels and reducing operational costs. Unicenter would help ensure the reliability and integrity of MUL's business-critical network, according to a CA press release.

NIIT launches Project Platypus

NIIT has launched internet-based technology called Project Platypus which it says will revolutionise computer education and equip its students to function well globally in the new internet-led environment. It will implement online classroom learning environment, internet access and a web-centric curriculum.

Channel V

Channel V Car Horn Orchestra has achieved worldclass status in the jingle/music package category at the Promax Awards held in San Francisco. The Channel V Support Kids "Once Upon A Time" PSA won a gold award in the public service announcement category.

Escotel Mobile

Escotel Mobile has launched two value-added online services in UP (west). These services are "CropHealth Line", which offers advice on crops and fertlisers to subscribers who call 70009 from their mobile phone. Another service "Vetline" will provide free veterinary advice to its subscribers. Users can call 70007 from their mobile with questions related to livestock and other animals. The service is available from 8 a.m to 1 p.m and from 5 to 7 p.m. Customers will be charged normal airtime for both the services.
