Batalik heights may see major offensive

Devsagar Singh
New Delhi, June 22: The Indian armed forces are poised for a major operation in the more difficult and inhospitable Batalik heights as they continued intense fighting in the Drass sub-sector killing six Pakistani army officers in the Mantho Dalo attack.

The Pakistan army officers killed include two majors, two capitains and two lieutunants, an air force spokesman disclosed here on Tuesday.

It is now authoritatively learnt that Indian troops fully captured the entire Tololing ridge on Sunday night killing 55 Pakistani army regulars and intruders but losing 22 Indian troopers, according to reports reaching here from the battle front.

Fighting was currently on to recapture two strategic heights - "point 5060" and "point 5100" in the Drass sector. Both these heights are said to be strategically located, the reports said.

At least three major hill features needed to be gained in the Drass sector, while in the Mushkoh valley there were some eight strategic positions Indian forces were eying at the moment, sources said.
