NPPA increases prices of 14 formulation packs

New Delhi, June 22: The National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority (NPPA) today announced an increase in prices of 14 formulation packs including Deriphyllin used in treatment of asthma and Levodopa tablets used as protection against Parkinson's disease.

Prices have been revised downwards in the case of 26 formulation packs, while in the case of three packs, prices have been fixed for the first time. There has been no change in price for one formulation.

The increase in prices range between 3.5 per cent and 9.6 per cent for most formulations except Levodopa tablets where the increase has been to the extent of 161.42 per cent. Key players in the Levodopa market include Sun Pharma and Wallace.

Other formulations which have experienced an increase in prices include Rubraplex Liquid and Lederplex T Liquid used for vitamin deficiency, Ledermycin tablet/capsules used as broad spectrum antibiotics and Demonorm tablets.

The downward revision in prices for the 26 formulations range between 4.58 per cent and51.48 per cent. Prices have gone down for anti-fungal drugs based on Griseofulvin such as Dermofulvin, Fungal, Fungivin, Gris OD, Grisomed, Grisoral, Griseoderm Fulvin, Fulvin-M and Walavin.

Prices of Ulvin 250 mg tablets and Ulvin 375 mg tablets manufactured by Delhi-based Seagull Labs Pvt. ltd has declined by 50.71 per cent and 51.48 per cent.

The prices fixed/revised would become effective within 15 days from the date of notification in the official gazette or the receipt of the order of the NPPA on this regard. Necessary revised price list would also be issued by the manufacturers/importers as required under Drug (Price Control) Order (DPCO) 1995.

As per the provision, the revised price list in Form-V of the DPCO has to be furnished by the concerned manufacturer to the government, NPPA, State Drug Control Authorities and distributors, wholesaler and retailers or any other agent. The manufacturers are also required to work out the prices of different pack sizes as the case may be.
