Mumbai, June 21: A mixed trend prevailed on the grains market. Activity, in general, was thin. Milling wheat price hardened by Rs 10 a quintal as deshi material was quoted at Rs 715-721 a quintal on improved buying inquiries. Other wheat and rice ruled static. MP 147 and Sarbati wheat were on offer at Rs 750-850 and at Rs 900-1400 respectively. Rice AP katar were traded at Rs 1050-1150 and cultured kolam at Rs 1800-2100.In the case of pulses, several items lost ground on poor buying support. Thus, tur Myanmar at Rs 1825-1875, urad Myanmar at Rs 1675-1700 a quintal lost Rs 25. Moong Maynamr were down to Rs 1500-1675 from Rs 1550-1750. Chinese moong at Rs 1725-1825 turned cheaper by Rs 25. Rajma red Myanmar lost Rs 50 at Rs 1850-1900.
White peas Canadian improved by Rs 25 at Rs 901 on emergence of low level support. Gram Australian at Rs 1200, kabuli gram A-2 at Rs 3200-3300, B-2 at Rs 2800, C-2 at Rs 1800-2000 and natural at Rs 2200-2300 were static.
Bullion moves up
Gold prices recovered atthe reduced level while silver closed on a mixed note on the bullion market here today.
Standard gold looked up by Rs 10 at Rs 4,080 per 10 gm. Gold .22 carat was up by same margin at Rs 3,775 per 10 gm. Prices of gold biscuit (116.50 gm.) rose by Rs 50 to Rs 47,850 per piece. Seasonal buying was dull but tight supplies and shortage of ready stock coupled with modest upsurge in dollar value prompted speculative interest for gold. In the global market gold reacted from $260.40 to $259.45 per ounce.
Silver .999 moved in both ways before concluding Rs 5 up at Rs 7,725 per kg. in absence of offerings. Silver .916 declined by Rs 15 at Rs 7,575 per kg on steady supplies of raw silver from local sources. Demand was dull and volume of trading was at a low ebb. Delhi was weak and in the global market silver looked up by 2 cents at $4.98 per ounce.
Cotton steady
A steady trend continued on the cotton market. Volume of business was moderate. V-797 at Rs 13,000-13,300, Morbi wagad at Rs 12,400-12,500 andKalan-ginned at Rs 11,900-12,000 a candy spot were well-held on reserved selling in view of declining arrivals and firmness in the medium couts of cotton yarn.
Sanker ruled in the range of Rs 15,500-21,000.
Maharashtra federation has virtually disposed of the entire stock of old cotton. Its present stock position is placed at 14 to 14.25 lakh bales.
Yarn quiet
A quiet trend contin ed on the yarn market. Viscose filament yarn bright cones first quality Century Rayon 150dn were on offer at Rs 196, 120dn at Rs 206, 100dn at Rs 215 and 75dn at Rs 245 a kg. 120dn dull cones were traded at Rs 212.
Nylon yarn Gujnil 20/1/0dn ruled at Rs 202, 30/1/0dn at Rs 300 and 111/24/0dn at Rs 150.
G'nut oil slides
Groundnut oil eased modestly at the improved level on the oil,oilseeds market here today. Castorseed and its oil ruled weak in the ready delivery while specualtive trading kept prices firm in the forward market.
Groundnut oil slid by Rs 2 to Rs 363 per 10 kg on thin consumer buyingwhile onset of monsoon triggered light selling among local millers, it was learnt. In Rajskot prices maintained at Rs 585/590 per 15 kg.
Imported palm oil edged down by Rs 2 to Rs 231 per 10 kg following fresh arrivals of 6000 tonnes of imported palm oil at Mumbai port. In the global market prices dropped below $400-level at $397.50 per tonne for nearby delivery and at $392.50 for long deliveries.
Castor oil was down by Rs 2 to Rs 375/387 per 10 kg on sluggish overseas demand. Castorseed ready dropped by Rs 10 at Rs 1719/1725 per quintal in sympathy.
In the futures section castorseed September delivery opened lower at Rs 1747 against previous closing of Rs 1758 but covering by bears pushed prices upward at Rs 1767 per quintal. In Ahmedabad castorseed September delivery commenced lower at Rs 1,744 but later on climbed to Rs 1770 per quintal. In Gujarat castorseed spot delivery ruled weak at Rs 340/341 per 20 kg. Castor oil placed at Rs 368/369 per 10 kg.
Sugar eases
An easy condition wasnoticed on the sugar market in view of limited buying support.
Losing Rs 5 a quintal allround, M-30 were placed at Rs 1440-1500 and S-30 at Rs 1430-1450 ex-godown. Ex-octroi checkpost, M-30 were on offer at Rs 1430-1445 and S-30 at Rs 1415-1425.
In tenders, M-30 were indicated at Rs 1385-1390 and S-30 at Rs 1370-1380 in Kolhapur line. Among imported sugar, white Thai material was on offer at Rs 1310-1315 ex-Kandla and yellow Brazilian at Rs 1225-1230 ex-godown.
