Indian troops, in a meticulously planned operation last night, recaptured the post, the highest feature along the Tololing ridge which is merely 900 metres away from the line of control (LoC), an army spokesman told reporters here on Sunday.

Point 5140 is situated behind Tololing hill and Point 4590, which were recaptured on May 29 and June 13. Facing a barrage of shelling from across the LoC, columns of Garhwal rifles, Naga regiment and Jammu and Kashmir rifles executed a multi-directional attack on the enemy position, which was held by over a company strength of about 100 personnel belonging to Pakistan's Northern light infantry.

"With the capture of this height, the Tololing ridge in Drass sector has been fully cleared of the Pakistantroops" as a result of which enemy observation of national highway 1-A in the drass area "has also been removed", he said.

While Indian troops were entrenched on Point 5140, "the enemy is engaging the recaptured position by artillery and mortar fire," the spokesman said. Pakistan army continued shelling in Uri sector and mortar firing in Poonch, Nowshera and Bhimbergali sectors, while Indian army responded effectively, he said.
