Nuclear phase-out in progress -- Germany

REUTERS
Frankfurt: Germany's Economics Ministry said on Saturday that it had sketched out a plan with utility companies to phase out nuclear power here, but at least one firm denied that any deal to end nuclear power had been struck.

Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder's goverment has been working to close all of Germany's nuclear power plants, but the ruling coalition's ambitions have met determined opposition from utilities companies. Several newspapers reported on Saturday, however, that Economics Minister Werner Mueller had finally struck the rough outlines of a deal with the power industry.
