New York, June 16: An Illinois-based company has been selected by Andhra Pradesh to provide multi-service networking solutions for the state government through the Andhra Pradesh Technology Services Ltd (APTS).In an announcement made in Lisle, Illinois, Tellabs said the contract for the networking solutions has been awarded to United Telecom Ltd (UTL), the company's strategic partner in India.
Tellabs' MartisDXX managed access and transport solution will provide data, voice and video transmission services to the APTS organisations. These include the government of Andhra Pradesh, state public sector undertakings, local bodies in the state and other organisations for government interactions.
"The MartisDXX system provides the information infrastructure to grow e-governance and e-business and e-commerce, catalyse information technology (IT)-related economic development of the state and support IT solutions to the government," Jimmy Tan, vice-president and general manager for Tellabs' Asia-Pacific salesregion, which is headquartered in Singapore, said.
"Tellabs is pleased to provide APTS with a solution that provides full manageability, reliability and flexibility," he said.
The MartisDXX system is currently deployed in more than 160 networks in 60 countries, providing intelligent transport for mobile services including LAN (local area network) interconnection, frame relay and Internet protocol interconnection, according to the company.
"The state government of Andhra Pradesh was looking for a solution and they talked to other companies before selecting us for the job," J Medina, a spokeswoman at the company's corporate communications office, said.
"The contract is for three years," she said. A company press note quoted chairman of UTL Rao Kasarabada as saying that the network needed full integration of voice, data and video services with transport and access technologies. "The protection of our initial investment with seamless scalability and flexibility is critical and Tellabs' MartisDXXmulti-service platform fits the bill perfectly," he said.
"The centralised management software of the MartisDXX system was key factor in our decision," he added.
