Oracle geared up to take on E-commerce

The $8.3 billion Oracle Corporation is all geared to take their German rival SAP head on in the ERP solutions market in India with a special focus on PSUs. "We have edged them (SAP) out in other parts of the world and are sure of snatching the market leadership in India, and is the prime agenda before us in coming years," Derek Williams, senior vice-president of Oracle told PTI in a teleconference from Singapore on Wednesday.

IPAN review on Reuters

Public Affairs Network's (PAN) industry Indian review would now be available on Reuters Business Briefing on-line through a dial-up service. According to a company statement, IPAN's monthly reviews cover the Indian economy in general and industries such as aviation, automobiles, broadcasting, power, information technology, insurance, telecom, pharmaceuticals and oil and gas.

Intel launches processors

Intel has introduced the 400 Mhz Pentium II and Celeron processors in the mobile market segment,said a company release. Specifically designed for mobile PCs, the processors deliver a stable computing platform for business users, the company said.

Aptech to offer IGNOU programme

Aptech on Tuesday said that it will continue to offer Indira Gandhi National Open University's bachelor of computer application degree programme through Aptech computer education centres. IGNOU offers BCA programme under its distance education program. Students having completed 10+2 can pursue BCA from university's empanelled internet access points. To commence the course, students register electronically, learn from state-of-art course material available on CD-ROM and on the website, and submit assignments in a web-based environment, a company release said.

E-commerce survey

E-commerce market size in India has been projected to cross Rs 650 billion within two years of which business to business opportunity alone could be as much as Rs 500 billion. According to a survey made by the Indian Market ResearchBureau, the business to consumer market size will be about Rs 168 billion in the same period. The survey was commissioned by CII, IL&FS and Global Information Infrastructure Corporation.

My Mumbai

INet Technologies has launched a new concept in intranets, My Mumbai, a local web server for Mumbai. My Mumbai is the first electronic gateway for Mumbai people with local information for free. The local info includes train timing, latest trends in fashion, story for kids and detail on celebrities. INet has been providing services in internet, intranet and software solutions.

ATM backbone at Punjab Univ

BICC Brand-Rex has implemented an ATM backbone at the Punjab University to provide communication facilities to all the nodes in the campus. The backbone, integrated by C-Dac, is scaleable to 10 gigabits per seconds. The internet and proxy servers are connected onto the backbone which also has an ethernet connectivity.

SRG appointment

Rajiv Arora, chairman of the DataPro group and headof Internet Service Providers Association, has been appointed chairman of the Delhi-based SRG Infotec. The move was part of SRG's alliance with the DataPro group.
