Freight rates may remain steady

Mumbai: Freight rates for the nine-tonne load vehicles from Mumbai to rest of the country may remain steady or fall marginally in the coming week, according to transporters.

Contrary to the expected firmness, the truck rates to most of the states declined during the week because neither the cargo nor vehicles were available in the market, a Mumbai-based transporter said.

Due to the persistent tension in Kashmir, the rates to the state and Himachal Pradesh remained same. The rates to Delhi were down by Rs 400 to Rs 13,800. The freight rates to Haryana fell by Rs 200-300 while those to Punjab Rs 200-700. The rates to Amritsar and Chandigarh decreased by Rs 700 and Rs 300 to Rs 15,000 and Rs 14,500, respectively.

The truck rates to Bihar dipped marginally by around Rs 200. The rates to Uttar Pradesh were steady. The rates to western region where firm except to Rajasthan. The Mumbai to Jaipur and Ajmer freight rates fell by Rs 1,000 each to Rs 10,300 and Rs 9,000.The rates to Bharathpur were at Rs 12,000,down Rs 300. The Mumbai to Assam truck rates decreased by Rs 1,000-2,000. The rates to Guwahati fell by Rs 2,000 to Rs 31,000. Rates to Jorhat, Dimapur and Tinsukhia were down by Rs 1,000 each.

The truck rates to Raniganj and Siliguri ( in West Bengal) were same. The rates to Calcutta dipped by Rs 500 last week to Rs 19,000 (Rs 2,000 fall in the last fortnight). The rates to Cuttack were down to Rs 16,000, a Rs 1,000 fall. The rates to Bhubaneshwar decreased by Rs 500 to Rs 15,500.

In south, the rates to Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Kerala remained same. The rates to some cities in Karnataka fell by Rs 700 to Rs 1,000 due to poor cargo movement.

After staying firm for long, the freight rates to Bangalore were down by Rs 1,000 to Rs 9,000. The rates to Mysore too moved down after remaining steady for months to Rs 9,000, marking a Rs 700 dip.

The rates to Chennai remained steady at Rs 13,200. The rates to Trichur and Cochin were steady at Rs 14,800 and Rs 14,300, respectively.
