Crude throughput dips at Haldia dock

Calcutta: Crude throughput dipped at the Haldia oil jetty under the Calcutta Port Trust during the week from June 4 to June 10 as no Suezmax tankers called at the Saugor anchorage, a point 50km upstream of the Sandheads, because of bad weather.

According to CPT sources, 80,000 tonnes of crude was handled at Haldia oil jetty during this period as against 1,50,000 tonnes in the previous seven days. At present, a half-loaded Suezmax tanker, Maharaja Agrasen, is discharging crude to several smaller vessels at Saugor anchorage. From there, the crude is brought Haldia oil jetty.

On the coal front, Haldia dock continued to handle both the thermal and coking varieties. According to sources, Haldia dock handled 60,000 tonnes of coking coal and two consignments of thermal coal went to Tuticorin port for Tamilnadu Electricity Board. Another consignment is being ready, and will sail out on June 13.

The Calcutta dock system handled 1,925 TEUs of containers, of which 550 TEUs went to Singapore. During the week fromMay 28 to June 3, the CDS handled 2,300 TEUs, of which 900 TEUs were exported.

On the import front, the CDS handled a total of 10,234 tonnes, out of which 1,686 tonnes was heavy lift and 7,548 tonnes was rails.

Apart from this, the CDS handled 1,934 tonnes of steel and 5,200 tonnes of sugar. Besides, 2,300 tonnes of steel was exported from Haldia dock and 6,200 tonnes is being ready for export.

On the POL (products) front, the CDS handled 39,179 tonnes of superior kerosene oil, high speed diesel, furnace oil and lube oil; mostly at Budge Budge jetty. Of this, SKO accounted for 13,200 tonnes, HSD 12,000 tonnes, FO 10,000 tonnes and Lube 3,979 tonnes. Haldia dock handled 12,000 tonnes of HSD.

Import of edible oil like RBD palmolein at Budge Budge was 4,871 tonnes compared to 7,988 tonnes in the previous week. The Haldia dock handled 12,000 tonnes of RBD palmolein.

Among other commodities, Haldia dock handled 8,955 tonnes of phosphoric acid and 5,000 tonnes of liquid ammonia.

According to CPTsources, import of sugar in the forthcoming week will rise steadily both at Calcutta and Haldia dock. Two Haldia bound vessels, carrying 12,000 tonnes and 14,500 tonnes of sugar, have been waiting at the Sandheads as on June 11 and one more carrying 6,535 tonnes was supposed to arrive at Kiddirpore dock of CDS on June 12. Meanwhile, Du Man Gong, carrying 8,025 tonnes of sugar, arrived and berthed at Calcutta dock on June 11.
