MRO-TEK plans to unveil low cost modems

Bangalore, June 12: The Rs 35 crore networking and datacom company MRO-TEK Ltd is planning to unveil low-cost modems aimed at the Internet users in the country. The new product would be manufactured in association with Zyxel Communications of Taiwan.

MRO-TEK chairman and managing director S Narayanan said the modems with a targeted street price of Rs 5,000 would be an excellent offer to the public, especially more than eight lakh Internet users in India. The Bangalore-based firmwas planning to sell around 25,000 such modems in the next 18 months' time. The company would also introduce the modems with Universal Sync Bus (USB) within a span of six months. The firm said that MRO-TEK is the only producer of this kind of 56K modems with Zyxel chipset in the country. Meanwhile, the Taiwanese firm has extended its relationship with MRO-TEK for exclusive distribution and manufacturing arrangement till 2001.
