Market Briefing

FE NEWS SERVICE
BSE to publish daily list of high-risk stocks

The Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) plans to release a daily list of Z-category stocks from next week. A Z-category tag implies high-risk and non-compliance with the bourse's listing norms. According to the BSE president Anand Rathi, the bourse will publish a daily list of around 25 stocks which are not adhering to the norms of the exchange or are very illiquid or have an extremely bad record of settling investor complaints.

Garware Polyester zooms

Punters are once again targeting Garware Polyester, the stock of which have shot up by an impressive 65 per cent in just eight trading sessions. Volumes, too, are on the rise -- from an average 5,000-6,000 shares per day to over 1 lakh shares at present. The reason is not far too seek. Unlike the other polyester film manufacturers, the rise in prices of polymers like DMT (a key raw material) is unlikely to affect Garware Polyester as it sources its requirement from its subsidiary, GarwareChemicals.

Delhi brokers oppose BOLT entry

The Bombay Stock Exchange may not find it easy to install its online trading system (BOLT) terminals in New Delhi. Although BSE is holding talks with the Delhi Stock Exchange (DSE) for setting up inter-exchange terminals through an MoU, a host of DSE brokers are believed to be opposed to the idea. "The proposed MoU may not come through so easily. Several brokers had earlier opposed to the move even when the board of directors of the Delhi bourse gave its approval to the proposal in April," said a DSE board member and a leading broker of the exchange.

Exit opportunity in Neha Resources

The open offer in Calcutta-based Neha Resources will provide an exit option to its shareholders. The stock is not regularly traded on the bourses. The acquirers -- Kailash Kumar Kanodia and Sujata Devi Kanodia -- have offered to pick up 15.2 lakh fully paid up equity shares (representing 38 per cent of the paid up capital) at a price of Rs 2.5.
