Mumbai, June 8: UK-based De La Rue, known as the "cash to cards" company, is launching "3700 series", a single operator banknote sorting machine which has the ability to cheque the quality of individual notes. Priced at Rs 16 lakh, the "3700" would be able to sort premium quality notes specifically for automated teller machine (ATM) use.Statistics show that there are about 40 billion notes in circulation in India. In value terms, soiled notes account for about 0.015 per cent of the total money in circulation (value-wise). No wonder then that the "3700" series might offer a solution. According to its managing director Jonathan Evans: "Certain notes have been in circulation for more than 15 years. The "3700" series will be able to seggregate them so that they can then be destroyed." Adds its regional manager - South Asia Jonathan Kendall: "The 3.5 year old product is the only desktop sorting machine with the ability to check and autheticate banknote security features in the paper, ink and thread to the veryhighest levels. It offers improved productivity, higher security and maximum cost efficiency."
While the machine will be manufactured by De La Rue, it is using two value added partners to distribute the product in India. One of the partners has been named as Nelito Systems, a part of the Tata Group of Companies. They are holding talks with more than 150 banks on Friday to explain the effectiveness of th product.
