Bhubaneswar, June 2: Hyderabad-based Satyam Computer is planning to develop a major base in Orissa, with its development centre in Bhubaneswar, the new emerging cyber-city of the country, becoming operational sometime in July.Initially, the Rs 6-crore hi-tech building will accommodate 300 people, and in the second phase, a mirror-image annex will come up with similar facilities at an additional cost of Rs 5 crore, company sources said. The sources said the sprawling 6.73 acre campus will be self-sufficient and will ultimately accommodate 600 people.
Satyam Computer's development centre is expected to earn Rs 20 crore from exports this year compared to Rs 4 crore its makeshift centre in Bhubaneswar earned last year. Satyam, which has a huge customer base in the US from where it earns 70 per cent of its revenue, has clients like GE, Ford, Sony, Boeing, etc.
The company is set to start internet service in Orissa by this month-end through its subsidiary, Satyam Infoway, a leading private internet serviceprovider in the country. The subsidiary has already started trial run of the service in Bhubaneswar.
With the demand for internet connections growing rapidly, Satyam Infoway is poised to become a major private sector player in the state. Besides internet connections, Satyam Infoway will provide software services including web paging and web hosting to customers at competitive rates, sources said.
