PRESS TRUST OF INDIA
New Delhi, May 26: The task force on infrastructure is likely to finalise time schedule for corporatisation of five airports, including Delhi and Mumbai.

The task force, which is scheduled to meet here on Thursday, would also discuss ways to accelerate the process of corporatisation, including parallel activities of upgrading and modernisation, official sources said. The high-powered body, set up by the prime minister last year to expedite infrastructure projects like airports and roads, would be briefed by the civil aviation ministry on the progress in setting up regulatory framework for the sector, the sources said.

The ministry is likely to indicate the broad directions in which the policy for the corporatisation of national airports authority would evolve in the coming months.

The sources said that at Thursday's meeting the task force would finalise the dates for presentations by specific companies and consortia on corporatisation and regulatory framework.

The government had identified airports inDelhi, Mumbai Calcutta, Chennai and Bangalore for Corporatisation. The meeting would also consider amendments in National Highway Act, 1956 to include land for housing and commercial development as part of highway projects.

The amendment would expedite acquisition of land for housing and commercial development and increase viability of highway projects, the sources said. The amendment was referred to the task force by the Union Cabinet.Apart from this, the task force is also likely to upwardly revise the projected cost of Rs 21,000 crore for implementing golden quadrilateral linking four metros in the country.
