New Delhi, May 26: Government today reconstituted the Cotton Advisory Board which provides a forum for liasion among government growers, traders and government. The members of the reconstituted board will serve for two years up to May 18, 2001 and the textile commissioner will be its chairman.The board originally set up in 1958 is periodically reconstituted to advise government on production, consumption and marketing of cotton.
Six members representing growers in the reconstituted board are: Rameshbhai Dudhat and Ratilal Devaji Bhai Vikani (both from Gujarat), Krishan Kumar Jhakar (Rajasthan), D Varupaksham (Andhra Pradesh), Pandurang Munde (Maharashtra) and Ashok Jain (Uttar Pradesh).
The members from industry are Jayanthibhai Ishvarbhai Patel (Gujarat), Gurmeet Singh Brar (Punjab), Mumbai-based Indian Cotton Mills Federation's chairman and All India Federation of Cooperative Spinning Mills president, NTC chairman, Coimbatore-based South India Small Spinners Association's president and chairman ofPiramal Spinning and Weaving Mills, Mumbai.
The trade will be represented in the advisory board by the Maharashtra State Cooperative Cotton Growers Marketing Federation, East India Cotton Association, All India Cotton Federation and Forward Markets Commission.
Cotton research and development will be represented by Mumbai-based CCI consultant AK Basu, director of Central Institute of Research in Cotton Technology, textile commissioner's Cotton Certification Committee and Central Institute for Cotton Research.
Ramaswami Ramayya Bhairi of Thane and chairman of Powerloom Development and Export Promotion Council will represent the powerloom sector while TR Gopalan of Madurai and chairman of Chennai-based Handloom Export Promotion Council will represent handloom sector.
There are members from the central and state governments as well. Joint textile commissioner will be the member secretary.
